Sainte-Marguerite: The Island of the Iron Mask...

Sainte-Marguerite is the largest island of the Lérins archipelago. It owes its name to Marguerite who, according to legend, was the sister of Honorat, the hermit who founded the abbey on the neighboring island.
The famous prisoner: The Iron Mask, was held in the island's Royal Fort, which became a state prison. The Musée de la Mer (Sea Museum) occupies the oldest part of the Royal Fort.

Saint-Honorat : An historical heritage.

Smaller, the island of Saint-Honorat is also the richest because of its historical heritage. Founded in the 5th century by the Cistercian monk Honorat, the abbey of Saint-Honorat is a high place of Christian history. Strongly impregnated with sixteen centuries of monastic life, the island is open to all, visitors in search of spirituality as well as lovers of authentic sites where the work of man blends with the treasures of nature.
